Wine Education at the Bistro

As part of our committment to honoring the wonderful Santa Maria Valley Wine Country region, we offer wine education every Monday evening from 5-6. We have a wonderful time tasting wine according themes brought to us by our wine experts.

We tasted the wines from the Dierberg family of wines, Starlane, Dierberg and 3 Saints. The standout was the Starlane Sauvignon Blanc. It was one of those wines that immediately you said this is a great wine. If I was Robert Parker I would give it 95 and that would be conservative.

We paired these wines with our awesome flatbreads and had a great time. Please come and experience the wonderful world of wine tasting with us sometime. We'll be here every Monday form 5-6. Reservations aren't necessary, just show up.

I love the Wine Cottage!
I moved away from the Central Coast about 9 months ago after living there over 12 years. But I visit often, and the Wine Cottage is a must on my activities list when I come home. I have known Dan and Rebecca for years, they have watch me grown up, so it's nice to be able to spend time with them at the Wine Cottage. I am only 23 and new to the wholewWine thing. I grew up in a beer drinking family, and when I turned 21, I loved my fair share of martini's, appletini's, and margarita's. But being around people who drink wine, I decided to give it a try, and I love it! I love that you don't feel lousy, or full after drinking a glass of red wine, and it's not so sweet and full of sugar that you get sick of it after two sips. I love visiting the wine cottage. I can listen to Rebecca talk about wine all afternoon. I don't know a thing about it, but hey, I'm learning. Pour me a glass, and I'll drink it. So saturday I decided I would pay a visit to my Wine Cottage friends. I stopped by with some friends in tow, and pulled up a seat at the bar. Rebecca was working that day, so I knew it would be fun, and I would get to try some new wine, and be educated too. For lunch, me and Alisha split a pizza (actually I ate most of it). We ordered the pizza with steak, mushrooms and carmelized onions. it was sooooo good. Rebecca suggested I try the Kenneth Volk Merlot, which I loved. And it tasted so good with the pizza. I actually like it so much, I ordered the same merlot at Blue in San Luis for dinner (we had a girl's night out for my cousin that is getting married). Then came dessert. I let my cousin Ronny order for me since he works there, and he had a special order he wanted me to try. I ordered the creme brulee, and ronny ordered an apple crisp dish with vanilla ice cream. I have had the creme brulee here before, and loved it. But when I tried the apple crisp dessert, particularly the ice cream, all I can say is, oh my goodness! It was some of the yummiest vanilla ice cream's I have ever tasted! We wanted to try some sort of chardonnay or dessert wines to go with our dessert. So Rebecca pulled out a bottle that a customer gave her recently. It was labeled Barsac 1976 Chateau Doisy Daene, a white wine of sorts (I wrote it down, my memory isn't that good). But it was yummy and sweet, and tasted really good with our dessert. And since it was the only bottle, and supplies were limited, I felt special drinking it.Overall I had an awesome couple hours there. I could sit at that bar for hours talking with Rebecca and drinking new wines. Ask Rebecca about the awesome new glasses she has. I always leave full, and looking forward to the next time I can come back to the bar:)Thanks Rebecca!

New Blogger, Welcome Natalie Haskins

We have another Wine Cottage Blogger among us, Natalie Haskins. She has been a silent fan of the Bistro since she first stepped inside and could have her first glass of wine. Now she would like all you to know and hopefully spread the word to others who are not yet fans of the Bistro.

Welcome Natalie and Thanks
