Description of the Transformation

On July 15th, 2005 we started demolition on the little tin building between the Loading Dock and Casa Bella, soon to be known as 285 S. Broadway in Old Town Orcutt. Few people even realized there was a building there. The roof was ripped off, the floor boards were removed and the roof rafters were demolished. This was the shell that we started with. Next came the framing of new studs in the walls and new roof line. The roof was a 5&12 but would become a clear story with windows down the center of the building.

Plumbers, electricians, network wiring specialists, roofers and mechanical contractors came next followed by more framing and concrete footings. The new beams that were installed to make the truss roof system were hand carved to give an old world look. Meanwhile, the floor boards were being planed and routered in preparation for their re-installation. The floor was reinstalled with strips of mahogany separating the original doug fir planks. Drywallers came next followed by finish carpentry, tile, flooring and faux finishes.

Finish plumbing and electrical and all kitchen appliances were installed next and we are almost completed. Inside and outside painting and last but not least finish landscaping. All together it has taken 4-1/2 months to complete. This is remarkable considering what we started with. The only way this was possible was because of the workers on the project and Dan Jacobs leading the troops. Even a vacation in the Bahamas wouldn't cover the cost in personal labor and effort that Dan put in. The only thing that will make a difference is for the Wine Cottage Bistro to be successful and for his family to always stay happy. I think we can do that!!

Thank you all for your support.
